Synopsis

‘A Glimpse Of A Mystery’ by reverend Dr. Charles Chiew has been visualized clearly in his writing and became a historical fact especially the challenges faced by missionaries during the Japanese era in North Borneo. A location map and illustrations of the various place mentioned by the writer would enable readers to remember the sequence of events clearly during the Japanese occupation and the second World War. Dr. Chiew’s tireless effort to do his research and in getting this book published is timely and deserved my sincere appreciation and heartiest congratulation.

Mystery is not something we do not know about, we can come to know about it bit by bit, but there will still be more to discover. The book ‘A Glimpse Of A Mystery’ by Rev. Dr. Charles Chiew helps to uncover the mystery about how the missionaries perished in Sapong, Tenom during the second World War. All this while, we used to hear various stories, imaginary tales and hearsays about their disappearance. At the same time, the service and sacrifice they had rendered are not forgotten. All these began with the prayer of a mother who spent an hour a day praying before the Blessed sacrament. This book also unveils to us the appalling consequences of war.

Quote of The Day

"You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive." – James Baldwin
