About Datin Nursyahirah Gagayan Binti Abdullah
Better known as Vinnie Nursyahirah, she is a writer born on 1 June 1977 in Kampung Sulakolung, Kanibongan, Pitas, Sabah. She is of Rungus ethnicity and is married to a Bajau Samah husband from Kota Belud. She is the youngest of seven siblings.
She received her early education for two years at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kusilad, Pitas from 1984 to 1986, before transferring to Sekolah Kebangsaan Kanibongan, Pitas, where she studied from 1986 to 1989. In December 1989, she continued her secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Lok Yuk Kudat, Sabah, and completed her Form Five in 1994.
Due to financial constraints, she had to set aside her dream of pursuing higher education even though she had received an offer to study at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at that time. She began her career as a substitute teacher from 1995 to 1997. Later, she was appointed as an Untrained Temporary Teacher (Guru Sandaran Tidak Terlatih – GSTT) at SK Kanibongan, Pitas starting in 2002, and ended her teaching service at SK Malubang, Pitas in 2006. She later continued her studies at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah in 2005.
The author has a strong interest in documenting, elevating, preserving, and sustaining traditional arts and culture, including traditional clothing, dances, handicrafts, and traditional cuisine. Driven by this deep passion for arts and culture, she began writing about these subjects to serve as references for future generations through her books.
Although she had long been interested in writing, she only managed to produce and publish her works in 2022. Her first book is titled 57 Resipi Masakan Tradisional Dapur Tempasuk Kota Belud Siri 1, and her second book is 57 Resipi Kuih Tradisional Tempasuk Kota Belud Sabah Siri 2.
