I came by this book purely by accident. In my effort to read at least two books a month (glad to say, I am doing better than 2), I was searching under the horror section of SSL Overdrive for a book to help me sleep. Read the summary and it looked very promising. And boy, it was a nail-biting, adrenaline pumping experience from beginning to end; one that left me very satisfied and wanting for more. Endurance is the second book in the Konrath Horror Collective. Jack Kilborn is the pen name of JA Konrath.

The book is about a B & B tucked away deep in the hills of West Virginia. It’s creepy at the get go. It picks up pace and never slows down. It is a mix of movies you might have seen; The Wrong Turn, The Hills have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc. Anyway, without giving away too much of the story, people with a certain blood type get sent to this B & B which is run by a psycho woman and her misshapen and mentally retarded mutant offspring. Whoever checks in to the hotel will never check out. And the things this owner and her broods do to the guests are way beyond horrifying. So, if you are faint-of-heart or averse to gory detailed descriptions of torture, then this book may not be for you. It has a happy ending though, as our heroes and a dog, managed to outsmart Mrs. Psycho and her retarded bunch. Read this book, I dare you. With the lights on, of course.

Quote of The Day

"I guess a big part of serious fiction’s purpose is to give the reader, who like all of us is sort of marooned in her own skull, to give her imaginative access to other selves." – David Foster Wallace
