Meet Dr. Chong Eng Leong

About Dr. Chong Eng Leong

Dr. Chong Eng Leong was born in Kota Belud in 1944. He attended Kota Belud and Jesselton Chung Hwa Schools, and then Government Secondary School (Sabah College). He graduated with an MBBS from Sydney University in 1971. After one year of Housemanship at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney he returned to sabah in early 1972 and was posted to Kota Kinabalu Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE) and Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan as Medical Officer. He served as Medical Superintendent at QE foe one year from September 1974 to 1975, before pursuing futher qualification in Edinburgh where he received his fellowship of the Royal College of surgeons, Edinburgh, In 1977. Upon his return to Sabah in late 1977, he was posted to Duchess of Kent Hospital for six months and transferred back to QE as a general surgeon. In 1982, he transitioned to private practice.

He servef as a Senator in 1987 foe one term. In 1999, he filed an election petition for the Likas constituency, succerssfully exposing the presence of unqualified names, often referred to as “phantom voters,”in the electoral roll.

Dr. Chong is the author of “LEST WE FORGET” published in 2009, a book which exposes Sabah’s extraordinary population growth, Project IC, and pahantpm voters.
