This book not only provides readers who are interested in writing crime fiction with important instruction, but it also presents a fascinating picture of the way that the very finest crime writers have developed their talents over the course of their careers. Because of its one-of-a-kind structure and content, it will not only be appealing to aspiring authors but also to a very broad readership of enthusiasts of the criminal genre.

The primary contributors are contemporary members of the illustrious Detection Club. These authors include Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Peter James, Peter Robinson, Ann Cleeves, Andrew Taylor, Elly Griffiths, Sophie Hannah, Stella Duffy, Alexander McCall Smith, and John Le Carre, amongst many others.
