In 2005, a proposal to commemorate World Audiovisual Heritage Day was approved at a UNESCO general conference. Follow up to the decision, the first world day was held on 27 October 2007 and became an event made annually on the same date and month. Like other celebrations too, World Audiovisual Heritage Day has different themes. This year, the theme is "Your Window to the World". Common activities of the community include competitions, such as logo drawing contests, local programmes arranged as a joint effort between the national film archives, the audiovisual community, television or radio stations, and the government. In addition, panel discussions, conferences, and public talks on the importance of preserving important audiovisual documents as well as special film screenings.

Quote of The Day

"I guess a big part of serious fiction’s purpose is to give the reader, who like all of us is sort of marooned in her own skull, to give her imaginative access to other selves." – David Foster Wallace
