When the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sabah, Tan Sri Musa Hj Aman had “a meet with the people” session at Kunak at the end of 2017, he approved the construction of a new branch library. This news brought thunderous applause from the local leaders and community at the function. This proposed new library building will replace the existing rented premise that was opened since 1984.

2018 will be a busy year for the library. Interior works of the Tanjung Aru Library will commence in earnest. It is estimated that with the acquisition of new furniture, which will take about eight months before the library is ready to be moved in and open to members of the public. There will be many new features incorporated in this library.

Another iconic building that begins operation in 2018 is none other than the new Sabah Administration Building at Likas Bay. This building houses the Chief Minister’s Department and many other Ministries and agencies. The lobby of this spectacular building will house the new branch library serving not only civil servants working in this office complex but residents in the Jalan Sulaman, Likas and also the Kingfisher housing areas.

The Kinabatangan branch library is expected to commence construction any time now. This building is funded solely by the Federal government and will be a landmark in Kinabatangan once it is completed.

The library is built for the community it serves. It is my hope that with more libraries being opened, people in and around the vicinity of the libraries will flock to these new libraries and use the facilities provided.
