Did you know that 1st October is the International Day of Older Persons, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly back on the 14th December, 1990?

Almost 700 million people are reported to be over the age of 60, with Asia having the largest number of older persons. With this in mind, there has to be enhanced attention to the particular needs and challenges faced by many older people.  Also important is how to ensure the continuing contribution of older people to the functioning of society. As human rights is at the core of all these efforts, the theme of this year’s commemoration is “The Journey to Age Equality”.

The library is doing its part in promoting awareness about older people and have come up with a list of titles available to check out. Also we would like to remind all to appreciate our elders and never forget their contributions to us personally, and the the society as a whole.

Happy International Day of Older Persons to all our Senior Citizens.

Quote of The Day

"Both reading and writing are experiences – lifelong – in the course of which we who encounter words used in certain ways are persuaded by them to be brought mind and heart within the presence, the power, of the imagination." – Eudora Welty
